Acne Treatment and Medication – Which Treatment is Best For You

Ben Levanger asked:

They’re quite an irritating menace cropping up on the face, neck and the back. Apart from being painful, they hurt the self-image of teenagers. The good news is that effective acne treatment and medication are now available.

The exact causes of acne are still debated, but it’s a commonly accepted fact that excess of skin oil (sebum) secreted by the sebaceous glands clogs the latter, leading to infection. The clogged glands on the skin swell up and acne begins to appear. The most common form of acne is acne lesions of the kind known as acne vulgaris. However in rare cases the infected glands may burst beneath the skin causing acne cysts. As to the reason for the increase in skin oil secretion, hormones such as androgen get the blame.

The connection between androgen and acne is obvious, though this may not be the only cause. It’s a widely accepted notion that food such as red meat, white flour, dairy products and sugar might trigger off acne. Steroids or other acne treatment and medication could also bring about more acne. One of the methods of effective acne treatment, or rather prevention, could be avoiding the respective food items, especially as some bodies are specifically allergic to certain kinds of food.

Acne treatment is as varied as the perceived reasons for it. Beginning with unconventional methods, acupuncture on specific points of the face could provide defence against acne. Homeopathy has a few remedies as well. Kali brom is a homeopathic medication that could help individuals having pustules and blind boils on the face, neck and back. Patients with oily skin, blackheads and pustules are given selenium. Patients suffering from the more severe kind of pustules are offered hepar sulph.

Conventional acne treatment and medication involves drugs that are to be taken internally, while benzoyl peroxide ointment is the most common method of external treatment. Many natural remedies are also available, including ones containing aloe vera.

Since natural acme treatment and medication is generally without side effects, it’s highly recommended. As over 90% of individuals with acne respond positively to treatment, there’s nothing to worry about. The right acne treatment will work for you. But finding the right acne treatments is something that you can a good while locating. That is why there are many resources online you help you find the treatment that will best work for you, and once you find the right treatment you will be amazed at the results.

How To Go About Cure and Acne Prevention

Matthew Stanton asked:

Yes, they are not good to look at. Acne is such a disgrace and many people would take disparate ways just to get rid of them. The cliche always says: Prevention is better than cure. So getting rid of them before they ever come is a must. If you are one of the lucky few who never had acne, then be glad. Just try the following so you retain that flawless facial skin. Here are a few ways to prevent acne:

1. Drink a lot of fluids. Water and other fluids refresh the skin. Our body is composed of cells that need water and other fluids to wash away the harmful elements and chemicals present in the body. Drinking at least eight glasses of fluids each day is enough to hydrate the cells and flush away toxins.

2. Clean face with gentle facial wash regularly. To get rid of the stubborn dirt that clogs the pores. Cleanse your face with a facial wash that is gentle so as not to make it dry. Also choose products that are made with natural ingredients.

3. Avoid using excessive make-up. Too much make-up clogs the pores and does not help the skin breath. Make-ups may also have chemicals that damage skin layers or irritate the skin.

4. Use the right products for your skin. Do not use oil-based products if you have oily skin or powder-based ones if you have dry skin. Using oil-based products for oily skin just add up to the oil production thus causing pores to clog. Using powder-based ones for dry skin just absorb the already little production of oil. Determine your skin type so you could choose the correct products.

5. Moisturize. Pamper your skin with moisturizer to retain the lost moisture throughout the day.

Moisturizers retain the skins moisture which is necessary to keep it glowing and healthy. If you have already got acne screaming in your face, do not fret, there are several ways to treat acne. The following are gradual but sure ways that you lose them. Getting rid of acne when you already have them.

1. Wash face. Washing the face with acne helps in cleaning the face and prevents further development of acne. It is a gradual but effective way to erase acne out of your face.

2. Egg white face mask. Egg white is good for the skin. Apply it on skin and leave it for a few minutes, rinse and see the results. The skin feels tighter and smoother.

3. Use gentle acne treatment. There are already commercial acne treatments available. Just choose one that is tested and gentle enough.

4. No, do not prick them! Never prick pimples or use removing tapes because they make holes in the skin and damage the pores.

Cystic acne – how to clean your acne skin

cystic acne asked:

In order to get rid of cystic acne you should adhere to strict cleansing. That is my best advice. Wash, wash, and wash your face. If you have blackheads, it means dirt is trapped, if you have cystic acne it means bacteria are trapped. And an oily face traps more dirt in so wash the oil away every night before you sleep and don’t think using harsh soaps will help. If you are naturally oily, the drier your skin is the more oil it will produce to counter react the dryness.

Use the Glycerin and Oat facial wash from Body Shop. It cleans your cystic acne face squeaky clean with leaving it dry. You can also use a good toner from Body Shop because you want to keep your pores close and not open to prevent dirt from getting in. Do not use a scrub. You will over activate your glands and have more breakouts. I believe at this point your skin is very sensitive but you may use a weekly masque (peel off or wash off masque) for deep cleansing.

During the day use oil blotters to ‘eat ‘ up the oil on your face. This works wonderfully if you can’t wash your face while you are outside. You can also use other products in pharmacies to dry up pimples while you sleep at night.

Learn to relax. That is a vital factor in your healing. The more you worry, the worse it gets believe me. I have been there done that. I have had acne for 10 years since I was 16 and now it has finally cleared up. Once your skin clears too, you can start using products with glycolic acid (Neo Strata) to peel away the old skin and scars to reveal newer skin. But do not do anything drastically. This will take time. You have to make sure your cystic acne problem clears before you use this as it can make you scar if you use it wrongly. You have had cystic acne for a long time, be prepared to spend the next 6-8 months in healing it. I wish you all the best.

Acne Scars Information – Acne Scars Treatment

Juliet Cohen asked:

Scar is the residual impact of acne. To understand it first we need to understand acne. The formation of acne is an indirect outcome of surplus amount of sebum or body oil discharged by the over stimulated oil glands embedded below the epidermal layer of the skin. Also they are connected directly with the hair follicles. Exfoliation is the natural bodily process in which the dead skin cells peel off and newer cells come up to the skin surface. Due to the presence of an excess amount of body oil the dead cells around the hair follicle lining get stuck inside the follicle or skin pore, thereby blocking it up totally or partially. Some bacterial microorganism within the hair follicles starts proliferating within this affected follicle. They feed on the sebum and metabolize it. The metabolized sebum is a kind of substance which generates irritation within the follicles yet remains unable to penetrate through the blocked pore. As an outcome of this, they find their way in deeper skin layer called dermis. But for dermis these are entirely foreign substances. The natural bodily process gets active in order to expel this inflamed debris. Our skin responds back with profound inflammation. This inflammation generates a wound or lesion within the affected region which we see as scars even after the acne is gone.

Scars could be cured by a number of methods, depending on the case history and severity of acne one is suffering from. And for patients with severe acne condition, the most valuable advice from the dermatologists is to take care of scarring simultaneously with treating acne. Laser acne resurfacing: One of the most popular and modern medical technique of acne scar removal is laser resurfacing. This treatment procedure might take 3 to 10 days to provide complete cure. The basic principle of this methodology is to remove the damaged upper surface of the skin layer to unveil the rather undamaged and fresh layer next to it. The whole procedure is conducted in doctor’s office. An initial local anesthesia might be administered to rule out the possibility of any kind of pain. The treatment might involve a number of sessions each of which could range from a few minutes to an hour depending on the severity of the case.

Dermabrasion is another successful acne scar removal technique used extensively by dermatologists all over the world. It is also called “lunch time peel”. In this method, a very superficial layer of the skin is removed with the help of a rotating wire brush or a spinning diamond instrument. Apart from fixing the damaged tissue and evening the skin texture, this technique is also useful in removing pigments generated by acne. Nevertheless, the remedial process might take around 10 days to 3 weeks—a fairly longer time as compared with laser resurfacing. Natural remedy for mild scars: These days, natural or home remedies have won the hearts of many acne patients who are suffering from mild acne scars. Sandalwood, cucumber juice, turmeric, aloe vera, lavender oil, etc. are the names of a few natural ingredients which have been proven to be very effective in removing acne scars.

Acne Myth or Fact?

Lamar Dean asked:

With all the information on acne causes and treatments you read in books, magazines, or on the Internet, it’s difficult sometimes to know what is fact and what is myth. You will find home remedies, herbal medicines, creams, gels, vitamins, antibiotics, hormonal treatments, retinoids, laser treatment and the list goes on.

First of all what is acne? Acne (pimples, whiteheads, zits) is the result of hair follicles and skin pores getting clogged when the body produces too much oil which builds up which then leads to swelling, pimples, zits or whiteheads. The oily substance is called sebum which lubricates and moisturizes the skin and hair. Normally, sebum produces small amounts of oil, but sometimes, although no one knows for sure why, starts over-producing oil. Hormones play a part in the amount of sebum that is produced during adolescence. The male hormone androgen, can cause sebaceous glands to enlarge leading to the increase of more sebum.

Some facts about…acne…pimples…zits.

*Popping pimples can lead to more pimples, causing bacteria to get into the skin, which can cause infection and scarring.

*An acne treatment that works for one person may not work for you.

*If other family members have/or had acne, it’s more likely that you will, too.

*People of all races and ages can get acne.

*Oil build-up in the skin can contribute to pimples. Gently wash your face at least twice a day with a mild soap and warm water.

*Acne vulgaris is more common in males than in females during adolescence.

*Medicines that treat epilepsy and different types of depression containing steroids, barbiturates, lithium, or iodides can contribute to the cause of acne.

*Some birth control pills can help acne by slowing down over-producing oil glands in the skin.

*Acne has nothing to do with lack of cleanliness.

*Acne is not contagious.

Some myths about…acne…pimples…zits.

*The sun is good for acne. A tan can temporarily cover up blemishes, but the sun may actually make acne worse.

*Eating chocolate and sugar causes acne.

*Acne is a result of poor hygiene. Although, proper cleansing is essential for

treating an acne condition.

*Acne is not caused by dirt.

*Stress causes acne. However, research suggests that for people who have acne, stress can make it worse.

*Any acne medication works instantly.

*Washing many times a day will minimize acne.

*Washing with rough soaps and aggressive scrubbing will clear up acne on the face.

*Picking your acne will make it disappear.

acne.

People with severe acne should always consult with a dermatologist.

Controlling Acne

John Moore asked:

es For A Smoother Skin.

Do you have acne ? Acne maybe the scourge of adolescent years, but it can follow people into middle age and beyond.

Acne is really a catchall term for a variety of symptoms such as pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. It’s a condition where the pores of skin become clogged and the person gets inflamed and non-inflamed lesions.

So what’s the cause of all the clogging ?……

Heredity – at least for the most part. Acne is genetic – it tends to run in families, it is an inherited defect of your pores. If both your parents had acne, three out of four of your brothers and sisters will get it too.

Factors that can aggravate an acne outbreak are :- Stress, sun exposure, seasonal changes, and climate can all precipitate an acne attack. Certain types of makeup and taking birth control pills can also cause a breakout.

Change Your Make-up

In adult women, make-up is the major factor in acne outbreaks, especially oil based products. It’s the oil that causes the problem. The oil is usually a derivative of fatty acids that are more potent than your own fatty acids. Use a non-oil-based make-up if you are prone to acne.

Read The labels.

Cosmetic products that contain lanolins, isopropyl myristate, sodium lauryl sulphate, laureth-4 and D & C red dyes should be avoided. Like oil, these ingredients are too rich for the skin.

Wash Properly.

Wash your make-up off thoroughly every night. Use a mild soap twice a day and make sure you rinse the soap entirely off your face. Rinse six or seven times with fresh water.

Use Less Make-up.

Whatever make-up you use, try to cut down on the amount you put on.

Leave Well Alone.

Don’t squeeze pimples or whiteheads. A pimple is an inflammation, and you could add to the inflammation by squeezing it, which could lead to an infection. A pimple will always go away in one to four weeks if you leave them alone.

Know When To Squeeze.

Most pimples are best left alone, but there is one kind that you can squeeze to help get rid of it. If the pimple has a little central yellow pus head in it, then a gentle squeeze will make it pop open very nicely. Once the pus pops out, the pimple will heal more quickly.

Attack Blackheads.

You can also get rid of blackheads by squeezing them. A blackhead is a very blocked pore, and a gentle squeeze will help rectifty this.

Give Dry Skin Extra Care.

Dry skin can be sensitive to some over the counter skin treatments, so please use these treatments with care. Start with the lower strength products first, and then increase the concentration slowly.

Stay Out Of The Sun.

Acne medications may cause adverse reactions to the sun, so minimize you exposure until you know what the reactions going to be.

Use One Treatment At A Time.

Don’t mix treatments, use only one at a time because they may cause an adverse reaction if mixed together.

Stop The Spread Of Acne.

Apply acne medication about half an inch around the affected area, to help keep the acne from spreading. Acne moves across the face from the nose to the ear, so you need to treat beyond the inflamed area. Most people make the mistake of treating only the pimples and not the outlaying areas of skin. This is wrong.

Fight Acne Without Harsh Drugs – Clearpores

Franklin Banker asked:

ng>There is a way to a blemish-free skin with no harsh drugs

If you are between 16 and 20 years old, odds are you are having problems with the old enemy, acne, and that you are trying to find a solution to it. You’re far from being alone in this matter, as nearly 70% of all youths suffer from more or less severe forms of acne. And for many people, moving into the late 20s does not mean an end to acne, but the same old problem.

The most embarrassing, of course, is facial acne. Pimples on you back or chest can be hidden under clothing even in the summertime, but your face is always exposed. Every person you meet will look you in the face and even if no comment is made you know what they are all thinking, don’t you? Fact is, people tend to judge others from the clothes they wear, the state and color of their skin and other such superficial aspects. This is why you have to get rid of acne.

Causes of acne

Facial acne is easier to treat than body acne, but has a bigger chance of coming back in the form of flare-ups. Dust, air pollution, cosmetics and shaving are all factors that work in favor of acne by irritating your skin or clogging your pores. Moreover, dust and air pollution also bring the bacteria, which are responsible for pimples. Whenever a pores is clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, bacteria seize the chance and start multiplying in the sebaceous follicle. Before long, the follicle turns into a blackhead or a whitehead (in mild cases), or even into pustules or papules (in severe forms of acne).

While the market is practically awash with products promising to treat acne and teen magazines are drumming up for this or that trendy cure, we have conducted our own independent research into this issue. What we found is that most products are using either ineffective ingredients that do nothing for your skin beyond a short-lived improvement, or are made of strong chemicals. For instance, ProActive contains Benzoyl Peroxide, which is a strong substance known to cause rashes, skin irritation and crusting. Our advice is to stay away from such hazards to your health.

The best acne treatment on the market

However, we do recommend a skin cleansing system that held our interest through both its quality of ingredients and safety record, since no customers complained of side effects. The ClearPores System is composed of deep facial and body washes, a herbal supplement and protection creams for face and body. The washes are based on the effective SD Alcohol and Salicylic Acid solutions that open the pores and cleanse the skin of dirt and bacteria, while the herbal supplement helps the body fight bacteria from the inside.

Unlike other skin cleansing products, ClearPores does not leave your skin shining with excess sebum or dry and swollen. By opening the pores to remove dirt and by fighting bacteria at the roots, the system makes sure you’ll no longer have to suffer whiteheads and blackheads on your face. It also helps reduce inflammation and rebuild damaged skin cells in order to make your skin healthy and smooth. And if this was not enough, the product is backed by an amazing 6-month money back guarantee that makes usage virtually risk free for you. What more could one ask?

Why spend your time feeling bad about your face and body when you can put an end to this nuisance with the help of the 3-part ClearPores System? We recommend it to all those who are struggling to hide or fight acne. No more will you have to be afraid of meeting new people. No more will your skin stand between you and a good time. With ClearPores, you can turn the tide of this struggle and win!

Alternative Acne Treatments

Yuki Shoji asked:

Looking for that miracle acne treatment? I am sad to say there is no one acne treatment that cures all types of acne. What should you do? The remedy may reside in alternative acne treatments.

Many people with this chronic skin condition have no other alternative but to apply a mix of different forms of acne treatments. This is true due to the fact that acne is often the result of a series of factors, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact cause.

There are several alternative acne treatments available to help you relieve your acne condition, but you must be aware that there is no miracle treatment. These are generally effective, but take time.

You may eventually get that healthy skin so much desired, but how long it takes depends on the type of treatment applied. The alternative acne treatments most commonly used are:

1) Herbal remedies

2) Home remedies

3) Natural treatments

Herbal remedies are a good alternative if you desire a less aggressive treatment, compared to some acne prescription drugs that may cause some side effects. However, herbal remedies are not the perfect solution. One important drawback is the time it takes to obtain results.

With some of these alternative acne treatments, you may not see any significant changes to your skin before one month of daily treatment. Also, not many scientific studies exist to support herbal remedies as an effective treatment.

Home remedies are pretty much like the herbal remedies. Also presented as a good alternative to the expensive medicated treatments, being cheaper and having practically no side effects.

But just like herbal remedies, not many scientific studies exist to support home remedies. But most important, these treatments are not known to give you quick results, compared to the results obtained by the use of medicated treatments.

Natural treatments are very similar to the other alternative acne treatments already mentioned. These treatments normally do not cause any side effects, and may take several weeks before noting any significant improvements.

Also, not many scientific studies exist to support natural remedies. The main difference lies in the price. This form of alternative acne treatment may cost more that the herbal remedies and the home remedies.

Natural treatments are often treatments using processed natural products you buy from the health store, rather than using affordable natural ingredients with which you can prepare the treatment yourself. Natural treatments are also known as synthetic treatments.

All things compared, there is no particular alternative acne treatment that offers a notable advantage over another. What you should retain is that if you are in a hurry and can take the side effects, you should opt for the prescription acne drugs.

On the other hand, if you are not in a big hurry you can experiment with a combination of alternative acne treatments until you find the right formula for you.

Clear Your Acne – Naturally!

Alessandra Nabas asked:

When an acne product has 20 ingredients listed on it, it can be hard to know if one of those ingredients is actually stopping you from having success. It can be even harder when you can’t pronounce the ingredient, much less know what it is and how it is going to affect your skin. Most mainstream acne treatments are not only much more expensive than common household items, but they also don’t always work as well either. With that in mind, I will list some basic household items that can work wonders on clearing up your skin.

Baking soda ? A very cheap cooking ingredient that most people have in their homes already, baking soda can be used as a great scrub. The purpose of a scrub is to exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin that can eventually clog pores and lead to acne spots. To start off, you’ll want to mix a small amount of baking soda with some water for form a paste. Baking soda is very effective as a scrub, so you want to be sure to be extra careful when applying it to your face. Gently massage the paste into your skin for ten to fifteen seconds. Then rinse the baking soda off, and pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Apple Cider Vinegar ? Though most people that use vinegar to treat acne use the apple cider form of vinegar, you can also use plain old regular vinegar. Regardless of which type you use, vinegar can be very helpful with it comes to clearing up acne. It can kill off acne causing bacteria, balance your skin’s pH, and absorb extra oil on your skin.

Starting with clean, dry skin, apply diluted vinegar (eight parts water to one part vinegar) directly to your skin with a cotton ball, and leave it on. If you want, you can also use a stronger vinegar solution (say, 2 or 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar), and apply it directly to problem areas, rinsing it off after ten minutes.

Lemon or lime juice can also be substituted for vinegar. Both of these juices are rich in citric acid, and can exfoliate your skin very well, halting the growth of acne spots, as well as fading previous, non-active acne quicker.

Egg Whites ? Rich in protein, egg whites can be used as a mask to heal and rebuild your skin. It can also help to absorb excess oil from your skin. To start off, crack an egg, removing the yolk so that just the egg whites are left behind. Beat these egg whites, and apply them directly to your face. Let it sit for fifteen minutes, and then rinse the egg off.

Oatmeal ? As odd as it may seem, oatmeal can absorb unwanted oil and draw out impurities which reside deep in your skin. Cook some plain oatmeal like you would for consumption. Let it cool off, and rub it over your clean skin. Let it sit for a while, like you would a mask, and then rinse off. If you do this on a regular basis, you should begin to start noticing results soon.

Tea Tree Oil ? TTO is a commonly used all-natural household antiseptic, which you can pick up at most drugstores or supermarkets. You can apply TTO directly to acne spots to kill bacteria, or, if you strongly dilute it with another oil (such as jojoba oil), over your entire face. Tea tree gel can be easier to apply than the oil, and many are made for applying over large areas of skin, so they aren’t quite as strong as straight TTO and do not need to be diluted.

Pantothenic Acid (Also known as Vit. B5) ? Pantothenic acid can be taken in large quantities for the benefit of acne reduction. B5 works by helping your body to metabolize fats which would otherwise be later turned into sebum (oil) and excreted through the skin. Small amounts of B5 won’t help though, and it has to be taken several times a day.

To help with acne, you will need to take 2.5 grams of pantothenic acid (the powder form is much easier to take), 4 times per day, for a total of 10 grams per day.

Aloe Vera ? Aloe Vera has been used for many years in kitchens for topical application to burns. Another benefit of aloe is that it can prevent scaring, fade marks and help heal acne spots.

You now have an idea of some basic household items you can use on your skin, that work better than many OTC acne products, and are much cheaper to use. Since we have only really covered basic acne treatments, you can always take this to another level and take all natural, internal acne treatments.

This sums up our basic list of natural alternatives for chemical based acne treatment products. You can take this a step farther by attacking your acne from the inside out. Acne has been shown numerous times to be very closely affected by the digestive system, so keeping your entire digestive system working as smooth as possible can help reduce acne. I will help give you a basic idea of some all natural products you can take to help clear up acne.

Cucumber, lemon and carrot juice, brewer’s yeast, and active charcoal pills are all capable of helping the digestive system function normally. Since the digestive system is closely related with the health of the skin, they should help reduce acne breakouts. Flax seed can also be wonderful for helping your skin heal faster.
